Truckee Meadows Community College announced on May 18 the opening of the Lizards’ Lair, a new dedicated meeting room for student-athletes, along with notable achievements by students and faculty across academics and research. The ribbon-cutting event was held in room 104 of the Vista Building at the Dandini Campus, attended by student-athletes, coaches, faculty, staff, and community supporters.
The Lizards’ Lair is designed as a central hub for athletic team meetings and academic support. It will provide a focused environment where athletes can review film, study scouting reports, and prepare for competitions using advanced video analysis. The college said this space reinforces its commitment to supporting student-athlete success both on and off the field.
President Jeffrey Alexander and Director of Athletics Geoffrey Hawkins spoke during the ceremony about TMCC Athletics’ future growth. Vice President of Student Services YeVonne Allen also participated in the event alongside Mighty the Lizard mascot and several student-athletes who performed the ceremonial ribbon cutting. A TMCC athlete said, “The Lizards’ Lair gives us a real place to lock in—whether it’s watching film, preparing for games or just getting on the same page as a team.”
TMCC students also excelled at this spring’s SkillsUSA Nevada competition held in Reno. Students earned top honors across career categories such as culinary arts, advanced manufacturing, construction trades, diesel technology and more. Several gold medalists will represent Nevada at national championships in June.
In addition to these accomplishments, TMCC Biology faculty published new research on flowering community phenology in Ecology and Evolution journal. Dr. Megan Lahti said: “The project grew out of seven Ecoblitz surveys and brought together an interdisciplinary team… Research is never done in isolation; it’s a community effort.” Undergraduate students were featured as co-authors while other students contributed critical data collection during Ecoblitz events at Rancho San Rafael Park.
Truckee Meadows Community College contributes more than $678 million annually to the regional economy while preparing students for local industries—with 95 percent of graduates remaining in Nevada—according to the official website.
