Twins to graduate from Western Nevada College’s Jump Start program after early connection

Peter and Chloe Woodbury will graduate from Western Nevada College as part of the Jump Start commencement class, according to a May 16 announcement. Thirteen years ago, the twins completed the pre-kindergarten program at the college’s Child Development Center and are now set to receive associate degrees before their high school graduation.

The story highlights how long-term engagement with educational institutions can impact student development. The Woodburys’ experience illustrates the opportunities available through programs that allow high school students to earn college credits.

“Peter and Chloe’s story beautifully reflects the lifelong impact that education and community can have on students and families,” said Western Nevada College President Dr. J. Kyle Dalpe. “From their early years in our Child Development Center to earning college degrees through Jump Start before graduating high school, they represent the opportunities that exist when students are supported, challenged and encouraged to grow. We are incredibly proud of their accomplishments and excited to see all they will achieve in the future.”

The twins’ mother, Stacy Woodbury, said being on campus from a young age helped them adjust: “Being on the WNC campus from a young age allowed the twins to become comfortable in a new setting, away from their traditional Carson schools… Both experiences allowed them to become comfortable in a college setting, which laid the groundwork for success in the Jump Start program.”

Chloe said about her experience: “Jump Start was the best decision I made. It prepared me for college courses, taught me organization and scheduling, and created a community with memories I’ll never forget.” Peter added: “I’ve been treated as an adult in Jump Start since I was 14, and that has allowed me to act like one too.”

Western Nevada College features modern classrooms, laboratories, libraries, student support centers at its campuses in Carson City, Fallon, and Minden; it is part of the Nevada System of Higher Education; focuses on student success through affordable education with small classes; collaborates with partners for bachelor’s degrees; and holds accreditation from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities—all according to its official website.

Both Peter and Chloe plan to attend University of Utah after graduation—Chloe pursuing dance and political science while Peter majors in business—with nearly all credits transferring toward their university degrees.
