Western Nevada College celebrates record number of Jump Start graduates in Class of 2026

Western Nevada College announced on May 15 that a record 242 students are graduating from its Jump Start program this year. The milestone will be marked during commencement ceremonies scheduled for May 18 in Carson City and May 20 in Fallon.

The Jump Start program allows high school students to earn up to an associate degree before receiving their high school diploma. This year’s graduates come from nine high schools, three academies, and include several homeschoolers.

Since its inception in 2013, the Jump Start initiative has offered Nevada high school students the opportunity to advance their education by completing college-level coursework while still enrolled in secondary school. The list of this year’s graduates includes participants from Carson High School, Churchill County High School, Dayton High School, Douglas High School, Fernley High School, Mater Academy, Nevada Virtual Academy, Oasis Academy, Silver Stage High School, Smith Valley High School, Virginia City High School, Yerington High School as well as homeschoolers across various counties.

Western Nevada College features modern classrooms and laboratories at its campuses and provides student support centers designed to enhance learning experiences. The college is part of the Nevada System of Higher Education and focuses on student success through affordable education with small classes and personalized instruction. It serves western Nevada with campuses located in Carson City, Fallon, and Minden; collaborates with partners to provide bachelor’s degrees; and holds accreditation from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities according to its official website.

The increase in Jump Start graduates reflects ongoing efforts by Western Nevada College to expand access to higher education for local youth.
