Eleanor Joiner Davis will graduate from Western Nevada College on May 15 with an Associate of Arts degree, achieving this milestone before receiving her high school diploma. She completed her college coursework with summa cum laude honors while also being involved in performing arts, gymnastics, ballet, and piloting hot air balloons.
Her academic and extracurricular achievements highlight the opportunities available to students who pursue dual enrollment and specialized training. Western Nevada College features modern classrooms, laboratories, libraries, and student support centers at its campuses in Carson City, Fallon, and Minden; it is part of the Nevada System of Higher Education and holds accreditation from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, according to its official website.
“I was very surprised to find out that I will graduate from college even before I graduate from high school, and I am very grateful to everyone who helped me accomplish this!” Eleanor said. She chose classes at Western Nevada College for their specialized arts training not offered elsewhere. “I took musical theater classes from Stephanie Arrigotti, voice classes from Judy Monson, dance with Gina Davis, and piano with John Shipley. They gave me a world-class performing arts education!” she said.
Her father Kyle Davis said: “WNC has been a phenomenal school for her, and we are so grateful to all her teachers there.” Her mother Dr. Amber Joiner added: “She would not be who she is without their tutelage and mentorship at such a professional level in the performing arts all these years!”
In addition to academics—where she holds a weighted GPA of 6.025 as valedictorian at Reno High School—Eleanor has participated in 12 musicals with the Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company under Professor Stephanie Arrigotti’s direction. Arrigotti said: “Ellie brought considerable talent as a child when she joined our company as Lavender in Matilda… Her drive, talent, and intelligence will open doors for her wherever she goes. Harvard has made a wise choice.”
Beyond academics and theater pursuits—including international competition as Team USA’s Junior National Champion on the Cyr Wheel—Eleanor is also preparing for further studies at Harvard University where she plans to explore theater, music and applied math.
“Eleanor’s accomplishments are extraordinary but what stands out even more is her curiosity discipline and passion for learning,” said WNC President Dr. J. Kyle Dalpe. “She represents the kind of student success story that inspires all of us—and we are proud that Western Nevada College has been part of her educational journey.”
