Western Nevada College (WNC) has been authorized by the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles to conduct Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) examinations on its campus. This development allows students in the CDL program to take their tests at WNC, removing the necessity of traveling to other DMV locations.

Dr. J. Kyle Dalpe, President of WNC, expressed enthusiasm about this advancement: “We are excited that WNC’s CDL program can now provide students with a seamless path to obtaining their licenses by offering on-campus testing. This approval strengthens our commitment to workforce training and makes it easier for students to transition into high-demand careers.”

The authorization applies to students enrolled in truck driving programs at both Fallon and Carson City campuses, enhancing accessibility and convenience. This initiative is supported by a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor.

Lauren Slemenda Moore, Continuing Education Coordinator at WNC, highlighted the benefits for students: “We are thrilled to offer this added benefit to our CDL students. By being able to test on campus, our students will have a smoother, more efficient path toward earning their CDLs, which will ultimately help them enter the workforce faster.”

Dawn Kerr leads the college’s third-party exam program as an experienced examiner with over 30 years in trucking. She stated: “As a CDL driver myself, I’ve seen what can happen when a driver isn’t focused on safety. I’ve always wanted to play a role in creating safer drivers. So, when I was offered the opportunity by WNC to be a part of their mission to create safe drivers, I was excited to accept it. Providing students with a less stressful testing process is a bonus!”

This initiative represents an important step for WNC as it continues expanding career training programs tailored to meet local workforce demands. The college’s CDL program aims to equip students with essential skills and certifications needed in the trucking industry.
