Western Nevada College recently held its annual Nursing Job Fair and Professional Development event, offering students a chance to connect with potential employers. Lupe DeSantiago, a nursing student at WNC, expressed her enthusiasm for the opportunity to engage directly with future employers. “This is a really exciting opportunity to have one-on-one conversations with possible employers,” she said.

The event took place in the Bristlecone Building and saw participation from over one hundred first- and second-year nursing students, as well as Nursing Assistant and pre-nursing students. Dr. Audey Auer, WNC’s Nursing Director, highlighted the significance of the day: “Today is a great day for the nursing division students and staff to connect and collaborate with community partners and potential employers.”

The three-hour event was sponsored by the National Student Nurses Association (WNC Chapter) and allowed students to submit résumés while learning about various facilities in Northern Nevada. WNC Professor of Nursing Kathryn Cocking noted that it provided insights into available opportunities.

Representatives from hospitals, healthcare facilities, senior care centers, universities, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada, and WNC’s Financial Aid office were present. First-year student Josh Sanders appreciated discovering employment opportunities early in his education.

Dr. J. Kyle Dalpe, WNC President, acknowledged the value of industry partners’ participation: “We are grateful that so many of our healthcare industry partners attend our Job Fair to better prepare our students for what is possible.”

Vendors included Renown Regional Medical Center/South Meadows, St Mary’s Hospital, Carson Tahoe Hospital among others.
