Western Nevada College President Dr. J. Kyle Dalpe discussed the importance of leadership, workplace culture, and student success during an appearance on the EdUp Experience podcast, according to a Mar. 11 announcement.

The discussion focused on why employee well-being should be central to strategic planning in higher education. Dr. Dalpe said that while many plans focus on goals like enrollment growth or new academic programs, their success depends on the people who implement them.

“When faculty and staff feel supported and valued, they are better able to serve students,” Dr. Dalpe said. He added that leadership is key in creating a culture of empathy, balance, and respect at work.

Dr. Dalpe also spoke about serving rural communities through Western Nevada College’s multiple campuses across several counties, which requires creativity and strong community ties to meet student needs throughout the region. The conversation included topics such as authentic leadership and lifelong learning. Dr. Dalpe shared his own commitment to wellness—including becoming a certified yoga instructor—as an example of how personal growth is important for leaders and educators.
