The College of Southern Nevada (CSN) has been selected as a recipient of the Metallica Scholars Initiative (MSI) for 2024, accompanied by a $75,000 grant. This funding will support 60 students enrolled in CSN’s “Ability to Benefit” program, which allows students to complete their high school education while earning technical skill certifications. The initiative aims to prepare students for careers in Southern Nevada’s growing economic sectors.
The Metallica Scholars Initiative was launched by Metallica’s All Within My Hands Foundation in partnership with the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC). It focuses on advancing workforce education for skilled trades and has provided millions in funding to community colleges nationwide since its inception.
CSN’s “Ability to Benefit” program offers comprehensive support services such as academic advising, career counseling, and financial aid guidance. The Metallica Scholarship will enhance these services, helping students focus on their studies and achieve career goals. The program targets sectors with high job demand like advanced manufacturing, information technology, and healthcare.
James “Papa Het” Hetfield, Metallica’s lead vocalist and guitarist, expressed his enthusiasm: “When we launched the Metallica Scholars Initiative, it really spoke to me. A collective goal of breaking the stigma of trade skills. Trade skills are vital to society, and what’s even more important is to support the many folks who are trying to create a career by learning and using these skills. I am so proud – we all are – to see how this program is changing lives by providing much-needed resources to empower students.”
