Dr. William Kibler, Acting President of the College of Southern Nevada (CSN), announced impending organizational changes in a communication to colleagues dated September 6, 2024. Dr. Kibler, who assumed his role two months ago, presented these changes to the Board of Regents and shared them with CSN staff.
Dr. Kibler stated that he has communicated personally with those directly or indirectly affected by these changes. While not all adjustments have been fully implemented due to ongoing hiring processes, he anticipates completion by the end of September.
The primary goals behind these changes are to reduce the size of top-level administration, improve administrative efficiency and effectiveness, and enhance student experience quality.
Upon starting as Acting President, Dr. Kibler had 22 positions reporting directly to him. This structure was deemed ineffective and unsustainable due to impaired communication and supervision. By the end of this month, only 11 positions will report directly to him.
The following direct report positions have been eliminated:
- Vice President – NLV Campus
- Vice President – Charleston Campus
- Vice President – Henderson Campus
- Chief Accreditation & Institutional Effectiveness Officer
- Executive Director Governmental Affairs
- Manager Government Affairs
Positions currently being reassigned include:
- Executive Director – CSN Foundation
- Executive Director – Marketing & Communications
- Executive Director – Grants & Sponsored Programs
- Executive Director – Workforce & Economic Development
Certain roles have been repurposed as follows:
- Three Campus Vice President positions reduced to one Vice President for External Relations & Campus Operations.
- Three Campus Associate Vice President positions repurposed into:
- One Associate Vice President for Campus Operations.
- Two Associate Vice Presidents for Academic Affairs.
Additionally, the roles of Chief of Staff & Chief Diversity Officer have been separated into:
- Executive Director of Governmental Affairs & Chief Diversity Officer.
- Chief of Staff.
The position of Executive Director of Grants & Sponsored Projects has also been repurposed to Executive Director of Government Affairs & Sponsored Projects.
Other reorganizations include:
- Human Resources now reporting to the President.
- Facilities Management reporting to the Vice President for Finance & Administration.
- International Student Center reporting to Student Affairs.
- Multicultural Offices reporting to the Diversity Office.
- Institutional Effectiveness reporting to Academic Affairs.
- Institutional Research reporting to Academic Affairs.
Searches will commence soon for all repurposed and interim positions. Cross-functional task forces will be appointed shortly thereafter to explore strategies for enhancing efficiencies, innovation, and cost savings across CSN. Dr. Kibler expressed appreciation for staff patience and support during this transition period and directed any questions to be addressed to the President’s Office.
Sincerely,
Dr. William L. Kibler
Acting President
