Schools across Nevada will observe the Week of Respect from September 30 to October 4. This annual event, established under NRS 236.073, is proclaimed by the Governor during the first week of October each year.

The observance aims to highlight ongoing efforts to prevent and address bullying and cyberbullying while fostering safe and respectful learning environments. Governor Joe Lombardo emphasized the importance of this initiative: “During this Week of Respect, we reaffirm our commitment to creating a safe and supportive learning environment for all students. Respect and kindness are essential to academic success, and it’s our shared responsibility to model these values throughout all of Nevada’s schools.”

Throughout the week, schools will engage in various activities designed to prevent, identify, and report incidents of bullying and cyberbullying. These initiatives aim to cultivate a culture of mutual respect and inclusion among students and staff.

Superintendent of Public Instruction Jhone Ebert highlighted the significance of this observance: “The Week of Respect is an opportunity to shine a light on the work that occurs every day in our state to ensure that our students, educators, and staff have safe school and work environments.”

The Nevada Department of Education’s Office for a Safe and Respectful Learning Environment supports educators, students, and families year-round in maintaining safe educational settings.
