The upcoming Bridges of Support: Faculty and Staff Engagement with Veterans conference is set for October 17, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event aims to enhance understanding and support for veterans.
Felipe Gutierrez, Program Director of Veteran Services at TMCC, will conduct the Vet Smart Training sessions. These sessions are designed to educate attendees about the challenges veterans face when transitioning back to civilian life, particularly focusing on PTSD and TBI. The objective is to help participants become more comfortable working with veterans and their families while fostering empathy and deeper understanding.
A panel discussion on classroom best practices will also take place, featuring Susan Trist, Matt Anderson, and Lauren Slemenda. Attendees will have the chance to meet WNC’s veteran students and learn from their personal experiences.
Throughout the day, the Bristlecone spine exhibit will be available from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., providing veteran-related community resources such as Veterans Affairs, Work for Warriors, and the Suicide Prevention Network. These resources aim to offer attendees valuable connections to better assist veterans in their communities.
Faculty and staff interested in attending must register for more details.
