Western Nevada College (WNC) has announced its involvement in the annual Great Nevada ShakeOut, scheduled for Thursday, October 17, at 10:17 a.m. This event is part of a larger international initiative aimed at promoting earthquake readiness and safety.

As a member of the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE), WNC will participate alongside other NSHE institutions. The drill offers an opportunity for students, faculty, and staff to practice crucial life-saving actions in case of an earthquake.

"Nevada is the third most seismically active state in the United States," highlighting the importance of earthquake preparedness for the campus community.

During the drill, WNC will issue an earthquake alert through its emergency communication system precisely at 10:17 a.m. Participants will be instructed to "Drop, Cover and Hold On."

For those without immediate shelter access, it is advised to move next to an interior wall and protect their head and neck with their hands.

WNC encourages participation from everyone on campus or at home to improve personal and organizational preparedness for earthquakes.
