The Elko Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) office will have a delayed start on Wednesday, August 14, due to employee training. The office will open at 1 p.m. and close regularly at 5 p.m.

“We are getting ever-so-close to kicking off our Rapid Registration process that will be launched exclusively in our Sahara and Elko DMV offices on August 19,” DMV Director Tonya Laney said. “This will be one of the first big projects of our department’s transformation and we’re excited to share it with everyone.”

The new process allows customers to upload documents remotely through a new portal, bypassing the need to wait in line. Individuals can now get approved for their registration application from the comfort of their own home or any location of their choosing.

This new process is accessible for anyone who purchases a vehicle from a Nevada dealership and can already register it online.

“With our release date nearing, we must ensure that our technicians at both testing offices understand and can execute this new registration process for our customers,” Laney said. “We recently completed a soft launch at the Sahara office in Las Vegas where our techs were able to receive lengthy hands-on training practice with this new application. We will be doing the same at our Elko office.”

Rapid Registration is still in its first phase, which means participants will still need to make an appointment and pick up their license plates in person at the Elko office. Future enhancements aim to allow a fully automated process, eliminating the need for a trip to the DMV altogether.
