From Sept. 9-13, 2024, the College of Southern Nevada (CSN) will participate in National Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) Week, an observance initiated by the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities. This week acknowledges the significant contributions of the 572 HSIs nationwide, including CSN, for their role in educating and empowering Hispanic youth.
CSN’s involvement will include a series of events aimed at celebrating and reflecting on its journey as an HSI. A key event is the CSN HSI Journey Symposium scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 10, from 2-4 p.m. at the North Las Vegas Campus in the June Whitley Student Lounge. The symposium will discuss the college’s ongoing commitment to serving its Hispanic community.
In collaboration with Nevada State University, CSN will also host the Latinx Community Social, offering a space for students, faculty, and community members to connect and celebrate their cultural heritage.
The week’s activities will feature a lecture by Dr. Marla Franco, vice president of Hispanic Serving Initiatives at the University of Arizona. The lecture is set for Thursday, Sept. 12, from 4:30-5 p.m. at the UNLV Student Union.
The final event will be a discussion titled "Ascent to Excellence as an HSI" via Zoom on Friday, Sept. 13, from 12:30-1:15 p.m.
