In recognition of International Translation Day, United Way of Southern Nevada (UWSN) is drawing attention to its Language Access Services. These services provide interpretation and translation to community nonprofits and government agencies at no cost. The initiative is part of UWSN’s Language Access Project, funded by a Congressional Appropriation supported by Congresswoman Dina Titus.
The project aims to identify service gaps in the community and help individuals with limited English proficiency navigate essential resources, support, and information.
Translation and interpretation are provided by Propio, a language service provider with over 25 years of experience, and ASL Communications, one of Nevada's largest providers for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. The services are available remotely on a first-come, first-served basis until funding runs out. Based on government data and census sources, the project includes nine commonly spoken languages in Southern Nevada besides English:
- American Sign Language (ASL)
- Amharic/Ethiopian
- Arabic
- Chinese
- Farsi/Dari
- Filipino/Tagalog
- Korean
- Spanish
- Vietnamese
