A new study supports the latter hypothesis by identifying similarities between soils found on Mars and those in Newfoundland, Canada, a region with a cold subarctic climate.

Reno-Sparks heat mapping project seeks volunteers

Reno, Nev. (July 2, 2024) – Scientists from the Desert Research Institute (DRI) and the University of Nevada, Reno are recruiting volunteers for a one-day campaign to map extreme heat across Washoe County. On July 27th, community volunteers will collect thousands of temperature and humidity measurements during three one-hour periods from early morning through evening. Sensors will be distributed at a central meeting location, which volunteers will attach to their vehicles before driving along predetermined routes. Volunteers can serve as drivers or navigators.
CSN hosts second annual AWS Cloud Computing Bootcamp

The College of Southern Nevada hosted its second annual AWS Cloud Computing Bootcamp from June 24-28 at the North Las Vegas campus. The weeklong intensive training, led by CSN’s Computing and Information Technology faculty, attracted 23 students from diverse IT disciplines including computer science, network administration, cybersecurity, and cloud systems administration.

On Friday, June 7, 2024, the Nevada Supreme Court entered an order in ADKT 0580 amending the Nevada Rules of Appellate Procedure. The amendments will take effect on August 15, 2024, and apply to all pending cases and cases initiated after that date.
Gaming win dipped in March for most of Nevada

The Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) has announced that nonrestricted gaming licensees recorded a gaming win of $1,290,406,695 in March 2024. This figure represents a 1.65% dip from the same period in the previous year. However, for the fiscal year ending on March 31, the win climbed by 4.44%.
