Construction employment increases across majority of US metro areas from July '23-'24

Construction employment increased in 232, or 65 percent, of 358 metro areas between July 2023 and July 2024, according to an analysis by the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) of new government employment data. Association officials noted that their latest workforce survey shows contractors are still eager to hire more employees but face difficulty finding qualified workers.

ACLU files EEOC charge against Nevada licensing board over alleged discriminatory practices

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and ACLU of Nevada have filed a charge with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) against the Nevada State Board of Massage Therapy. The charge alleges that the board's reliance on uncorroborated and dismissed criminal charges in deciding massage therapy license applications has caused an unjustified disparate impact on Asian women, violating Title VII.

Tahoe Regional Planning Agency fines jet boat operator for violation

Lake Tahoe, Nev./Calif. – The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) Governing Board approved a $10,000 penalty today to a jet boat operator who entered the Upper Truckee River Marsh earlier this year. TRPA regulations prohibit operating motorized watercraft in tributaries of Lake Tahoe and speeding within 600 feet of shore to protect public safety, water quality, habitat, and recreation, the agency said today.

Nevada settles with Abra over unlicensed cryptocurrency operations

The Nevada Financial Institutions Division has joined 24 other state financial regulatory agencies in taking collective action against Plutus Financial, Inc., Abra Trading, LLC, Plutus Financial Holdings, Inc., and Plutus Lending, LLC (collectively known as "Abra"), along with CEO and largest equity owner William "Bill" Barhydt. The actions stem from allegations that the company operated a cryptocurrency business without the necessary state licensing.
