Jack C. Davis Observatory at Western Nevada College is hosting its next star party on October 26. These events are held twice a month and are open to the public without charge. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about astronomy and use various telescopes to observe stars from the observatory's location above the college campus.

Basic nursing skills class available at Western Nevada College's Douglas campus
Future nursing students at Western Nevada College have a new opportunity to take the Basic Nursing Skills (NURS 129) class on the Douglas campus. This eight-week course, which satisfies a WNC nursing program admission requirement, is scheduled from October 21 through December 14. The class will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Lake Tahoe identified as world's third-oldest freshwater permanent lake
Western Nevada College Professor of Geosciences Dr. Winnie Kortemeier has determined that Lake Tahoe is 2.3 million years old, making it North America’s oldest freshwater permanent lake and the third oldest in the world. This conclusion was reached through radiometric dating of rocks and examination of basalt that interacted with the lake's water.

Capital City Arts Initiative showcases Robert Morrison's work at WNC
The Capital City Arts Initiative (CCAI) is showcasing the work of late artist Robert Morrison in an exhibit titled "A Glimpse Back" at Western Nevada College’s Bristlecone Art Gallery. Located on the Carson City campus, the exhibition features a variety of sculptures, paintings, and drawings by Morrison.

Western Nevada College hosted a Club & Career Fair on campus on Wednesday, Sept. 11, bringing together student clubs, services, and a diverse group of employers. Despite windy conditions, students had the opportunity to engage with potential employers, WNC faculty and staff, and representatives from various student organizations.

Veterans Resource Center honors 9/11 victims with stair climb challenge
In remembrance of the 2,977 people who lost their lives in the 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon, as well as an airliner that crashed in Pennsylvania, Western Nevada College’s Veterans Resource Center and Wildcat Veterans Club hosted the second annual Stair Climb Challenge today.

Nevada Promise Scholarship offers financial aid opportunities; deadline Oct. 31
High school seniors concerned about funding their college education can rely on the Nevada Promise Scholarship, available through Western Nevada College. Created by the Nevada Legislature in 2017, this last-dollar scholarship covers tuition and other mandatory fees not met by federal or state aid. The scholarship provides financial assistance for up to three years for students who apply and meet the necessary requirements.

Western Nevada College raises $120K at Reach for The Stars Gala
The Western Nevada College Foundation’s seventh annual Reach for the Stars Gala: Giving Back to the Future raised $120,000 to support student success and enhance campus programs and facilities. Board of Regents meets at Western Nevada College after five-year hiatus
Western Nevada College (WNC) hosted the Board of Regents, the governing body for the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE), for its quarterly meeting on Thursday and Friday in Carson Nugget Hall. This marked the first time in five years that the meeting was held on WNC's Carson City campus.

Child Development Center wins seventh consecutive Best of Carson City Award
The Child Development Center (CDC) at Western Nevada College (WNC) has been recognized with its seventh consecutive Best of Carson City Award. The award ceremony took place on Monday, Aug. 26, and was attended by WNC President Dr. J. Kyle Dalpe, Foundation Executive Director Niki Gladys, Chief Financial Officer Coral Lopez, and staff members.

Western Nevada College (WNC) welcomes students to the 2024 Fall Semester. For those still planning to enroll, Student Services is available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Full-term class registration remains open until Friday, Aug. 30. After this date, late registration requires instructor approval and must be completed by Sept. 24.

Western Nevada College announces Summer Session Dean's List for 2024
Nearly 100 students earned the academic honor of making Western Nevada College’s 2024 Summer Dean’s List. To earn this achievement during the summer session, 99 students attained a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and completed six or more units of classes.
