Child Development Center wins seventh consecutive Best of Carson City Award

The Child Development Center (CDC) at Western Nevada College (WNC) has been recognized with its seventh consecutive Best of Carson City Award. The award ceremony took place on Monday, Aug. 26, and was attended by WNC President Dr. J. Kyle Dalpe, Foundation Executive Director Niki Gladys, Chief Financial Officer Coral Lopez, and staff members.


Nevada System of Higher Education welcomes back students for fall semester

Western Nevada College offers ongoing enrollment options for fall semester

Western Nevada College (WNC) welcomes students to the 2024 Fall Semester. For those still planning to enroll, Student Services is available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Full-term class registration remains open until Friday, Aug. 30. After this date, late registration requires instructor approval and must be completed by Sept. 24.


Jack C. Davis Observatory to host moon night event on September 14

Community members are invited to attend International Observe the Moon Night on Saturday, Sept. 14, at 7 p.m. Jack C. Davis Observatory (JCDO) on campus at Western Nevada College will host the free event.

Insurify report finds Nevada is fourth most expensive state for car insurance

Insurify released a report on August 11, which found that Nevada is the fourth most expensive state for car insurance in the nation, with car insurance costs predicted to increase by a total of 20% this year.


DRI holds inaugural AWE+ Summit on wildfire recovery

The Desert Research Institute (DRI), in collaboration with the DRI Foundation, held its inaugural AWE+ Summit this week in Las Vegas, Nevada. Tmcc celebrates perfect nclex pass rate; natural history museum unveils new displays

Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC) is celebrating a significant achievement as the Maxine S. Jacobs Nursing Program reported a 100% pass rate for its graduates on the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) in the first quarter of 2024. This accomplishment places TMCC's program at the top in both Nevada and the United States.


Russ Poulin announces retirement after three decades with WICHE

Russ Poulin, executive director of WCET and vice president of technology-enhanced education for the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE), has announced his retirement at the end of this year. WICHE President Demarée Michelau confirmed that both WCET and the WICHE Commission were informed earlier this week.

Survey finds majority of Nevada voters not convinced by argument against capping attorney fees

A survey conducted by Public Opinion Strategies in July among Nevada residents found that only 23% of respondents were "very convinced" by an argument opposing a proposed 20% cap on attorney contingency fees. The argument suggested that implementing the 20% cap could make it more difficult for plaintiffs to find legal representation.

UNLV Alumni Association names Lonnie Wright Alumnus of the Year

As the director and professor of the hotel management program at CSN, Dr. Lonnie Wright has dedicated over three decades to the fields of gaming, resort management, and hospitality. He is also the founder of the Hospitality International Training Academy, a school focused on training culinary industry workers. GOED announces key leadership appointments

Dr. Dorian Stonebarger, GOED’s former director of strategy and public policy, has been appointed deputy director of the agency. Prior to GOED, Dr. Stonebarger served as the chief policy advisor to Las Vegas Mayor Pro Tempore Brian Knudsen, as well as program director at Three Square Food Bank.
