Elko County students achieve perfect pass rate on career readiness credential

The Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) has announced that nine students from the Elko County School District have achieved a 100% pass rate on the National Career Readiness Credential (NCRC) exams.


Govenor Lombardo and the OSIT create the Nevada Middle Mile Network

Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo, in collaboration with the Nevada Governor’s Office of Science, Innovation and Technology (OSIT), has announced the establishment of a 2,500-mile open-access, fiber optic network. Named the Nevada Middle Mile Network, this initiative aims to provide connectivity to K-12 schools, libraries, state and local government facilities, and community anchor institutions that are currently unserved.


Chelewa Gant named director of libraries at CSN

Mr. Chelewa "Che" Gant has been appointed as the new Director of Libraries at the College of Southern Nevada (CSN). Following a national search, Gant will assume his role on June 3. He previously served as the Director for Front Range Community College's Boulder Campus Library and was also the Open Educational Resource administrator.


Texas researchers develop algorithm for tracking daily reservoir evaporation

Scientists from Texas A&M University, led by Dr. Huilin Gao and Dr. Bingjie Zhao, have developed a new method for estimating daily reservoir evaporation rates. This research, detailed in the journal Water Resources Research, highlights the importance of accurate evaporation estimates for managing water resources, especially in Texas where summer temperatures can exceed 100 degrees.

The Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) has approved tax abatements totaling $35,321,637 for two companies.

A new study by researchers from the Desert Research Institute (DRI), USGS, and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory reveals that rising temperatures will drastically reduce streamflows in the Upper Colorado River Basin as groundwater levels decline.

CSN promotes mental health awareness month with support services for students

Mental health challenges are prevalent among college students, with 1 in 5 experiencing a mental health condition during their studies, according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Additionally, half of the student population rates their mental health as below average or poor. Common stressors include anxiety over academic performance, financial concerns, interpersonal conflicts, and burnout.
