Public meeting set for South Shore watercraft inspection station proposal

Partner agencies are collaborating to establish a permanent aquatic invasive species (AIS) watercraft inspection station in Meyers, California. The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA), El Dorado County, California Tahoe Conservancy, and Tahoe Resource Conservation District have scheduled a public meeting on October 14 at 5:30 p.m. at the Lake Valley Fire Protection District station in Meyers to discuss the proposed site.


Attorney General Aaron Ford highlights achievements in recent biennial report

ACLU intervenes in Clark County lawsuit over voter roll purge

The ACLU of Nevada has taken legal action to intervene in a lawsuit that aims to remove over 19,000 registered voters from Clark County's voter rolls just weeks before the upcoming November election. The case, filed by Citizen Outreach Foundation, targets voters whose names appear in the National Change of Address (NCOA) database. The ACLU argues that this method is insufficient for challenging voter eligibility and claims it could lead to disenfranchisement.


Vegas Chamber announces move to Civic Plaza after council approval

Mobile mammography unit visiting CSN Charleston Campus on October 23

Nevada Health Centers will bring its mobile mammography unit, the Mammovan, to the College of Southern Nevada's Charleston Campus on Wednesday, October 23, 2024. The Mammovan will offer mammography services from 7:40 a.m. to 3:20 p.m., with a lunch break from noon to 1 p.m.


Jeff Love & Friends win Western Nevada College Foundation's Golf for Education tournament

The Western Nevada College Foundation celebrated the 25th anniversary of its Golf for Education tournament on September 27. The event took place at Toiyabe Golf Club and drew in business partners and supporters aligned with the college's mission to equip students with skills for Nevada’s workforce.


CSN announces inaugural Día de los Muertos celebration at Multicultural Centers

It will be held at each of the CSN Multicultural Centers on October 30, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with an exhibition of community altars continuing on October 30-31 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.


College of Southern Nevada announces events for LGBTQIA+ History Month

The College of Southern Nevada (CSN) will celebrate LGBTQIA+ History Month this October. This period is dedicated to honoring the contributions, struggles, and successes of the LGBTQIA+ community. Additionally, Friday, October 11th marks National Coming Out Day, a day focused on supporting those who have chosen to live openly as their authentic selves.


ACLU files motion against Washoe County voter challenge lawsuit

The ACLU of Nevada has filed a motion to intervene in a lawsuit that seeks to remove over 11,000 registered voters from Washoe County’s voter rolls just weeks before the November election. This action could result in thousands of voters not receiving their mail-in ballots or having their registrations canceled. Among those challenged are at least seven members of the ACLU of Nevada.


Nevada launches certification program aimed at preserving dark skies

The Nevada Department of Outdoor Recreation (NDOR) has launched the Nevada Starry Skies Certification Program, addressing the challenges posed by light pollution. Nevada DMV extends hours ahead of election

The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has announced extended business hours to assist customers needing credentials to vote in the upcoming election. From Monday, October 21, 2024, through Saturday, November 2, 2024, DMV metro offices will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Monday through Saturday. During this period, no appointments will be necessary.


Carson City funds free mental health support for Western Nevada College students

Carson City has allocated a $20,000 grant to support mental health services for students at Western Nevada College (WNC) through the WNC Foundation. The initiative offers free mental health counseling via BetterMynd for the 2024-25 academic year.
